When using Fedora, websites are not resolving when connected to Xfinity Wireless Router. It is able to get an IP, but is not able to reach any websites.

Other devices: Windows, Android, and Apple had no issue with it.

  • The Router Model: Arris TG862G/CT
  • Security Mode: WPA/WPA2-PSK (TKIP/AES)

I tried rebooting the router, resetting the WiFi module, and resetting to Default configuration. I also tried manually configuring /etc/resolv.conf, checking firewall settings, turning off IPV6, editing nsswitch.conf. This all didn't work.

In this Comcast Forum, dtoaiselli recommended changing the security mode to WPA-PSK (TKIP). After changing this setting and restarting Networking, I was able to browse to websites again. Setting it to WPA2-PSK (AES), WPA2-PSK (TKIP/AES) didn't work either. But, setting it to WPA2-PSK (TKIP) worked, and I ended up keepiing it with this setting.
