virt-manager "Add Connection" nothing happening

No errors in /var/log/messages, but error in /root/.virt-manager/virt-manager.log:

virt-manager DBusException: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory

messagebus and haldaemon were not running. Started those services and now "Add Connection" brings up the dialog box.
