How can my family connect to the network?

We have two wireless networks here at the Institute - one is encrypted (eduroam) and the other is not (IAS). 

1.  Log into with your IAS username and password.
2.  Click on the "Register Accounts" button.
3.  Click on the "Add an account" button.
4.  Provide the required information and then click on the "Add" button.

An email message will then be sent to the email address that was provided in step 4 so that the account password can be set. 

How do I set up two-factor (2FA) multi-factor (MFA) authentication?

In order to login to OpenVPN, you will need to use Duo multi-factor authentication.  Duo may also be used if Computing Staff needs to verify who you are for remote assistance.

MFA requires a smart phone or tablet.  Please contact the Help Desk if you do not have either of these devices, so you will be provided with alternate means of authentication.

How do I connect to the School of Math servers via ssh?

ssh (Secure Shell) is a program that allows a user to log into a remote computer and to execute commands on that remote computer.  It provides secure encrypted communications between two untrusted hosts over an insecure network.  Users with active School of Math user accounts can access various resources through our SSH gateway ( using their assigned IAS username and password. 

How do I copy files from the Mathematics Network to another location, ftp doesn't seem to work.

ftp and telnet are disabled for security reasons. Secure versions of these programs are available.
ftp has been replaced by Secure Copy(scp) uses the same syntax as the older Remote Copy (rcp) program.


To copy file0 from the Institute to host where you have an account me, you would use:
