Vanishing Theorems for Torsion Automorphic Sheaves

GALOIS REPRESENTATIONS AND AUTOMORPHIC FORMS SEMINAR
Topic:Vanishing Theorems for Torsion Automorphic Sheaves
Speaker:Kai-Wen Lan
Affiliation:Veblen Research Instructor; Princeton University/School of Mathematics
Date:Thursday, December 9
Time/Room:2:15pm - 3:15pm/S-101

In this talk, I will explain my joint work with Junecue Suh on when and why the cohomology of Shimura varieties (with nontrivial integral coefficients) has no torsion, based on certain new vanishing theorems we have proved. (All conditions involved will be explicit, independent of level, and effectively computable.)
