Optimization, Complexity and Invariant Theory
This workshop aims to explore connections between complexity and optimization with algebra and analysis, which have emerged from the works on operator scaling. The hope is to inform participants from different communities of both basic tools and new developments, and set out new challenges and directions for this exciting interdisciplinary research.
Workshop on Representation Theory and Analysis on Locally Symmetric Spaces
March 5, 2018 - March 9, 2018
The workshop will focus on recent progress in the analytic theory of automorphic forms.
Topics include the trace formula with its relative, local and arithmetic variants, periods and the theta correspondence, and equidistribution.
The workshop is organized by Akshay Venkatesh (IAS/Stanford University), Erez Lapid (IAS/Weizmann Institute) and Yiannis Sakellaridis (IAS/Rutgers)
Geometric and Modular Representation Theory
During the 2020-2021 academic year, the School will have a special program on Geometric and Modular Representation Theory. Geordie Williamson of the University of Sydney will be the Distinguished Visiting Professor.
Workshop on Motives, Galois Representations and Cohomology Around the Langlands Program
The main theme will be the relationship between cohomology of arithmetic groups, Galois representations, and motives, which arises out of the Langlands program. The workshop will emphasize some directions that have seen recent progress, for example, new results and new features in the non-Hermitian case, or constructions of new Euler systems
The workshop is organized by Akshay Venkatesh (IAS/Stanford University), Frank Calegari (University of Chicago).
Special Year on Optimization, Statistics, and Theoretical Machine Learning
The special year will be led by Sanjeev Arora, who holds a dual appointment as Charles Fitzmorris Professor of Computer Science at Princeton University and Visiting Professor at the IAS, 2017-2020.
