Sony Blank Screen

I own a Sony DCR-TRV33, purchased in May 2003. Recently, I brought it to a trip to Las Vegas, only to discover that the screen stayed black in Camera Mode, as if the lens cap was on.

After some research, I found information stating the problem:

CCD (image sensor) failures, particularly in conditions of high heat and humidity, led to cameras capturing images with either no picture at all, or with extreme distortion and severe purple or green color casts.
