How do I connect to the Mathematics network from off campus? Telnet doesn't seem to work.
ftp and telnet are disabled for security reasons. Secure versions of these programs are available.
telnet has been replaced by Secure Shell (ssh). Secure Shell uses the same syntax as the older Remote Shell (rsh) program.
Remotely
To connect to the Institute where you have an account iasme, you would use:
ssh -l iasme ssh.math.ias.eduNote:ssh is the only host you may connect to from off campus.
Locally
To connect to host remote.edu where you have an account me, you would use:
ssh -l me remote.eduNote:The -l sets the login name, it is redundant if you have the same login on both hosts.
Checking email
If you only wish to check your email, you may do so using .
Horde may be accessed at https://mail.math.ias.edu
